Top U-boat collector's item!

Type IX submarines were mainly used as "milk cows" (supply vessels) and delivered rations, fuel and torpedoes for other submarines.

U 180 was commissioned on 16 May 1942 under Korvettenkapitän Werner Musenberg. The first venture was a secret operation in which the Indian freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose and the Arab nationalist Abid Hasan were handed over to a Japanese submarine in the Indian Ocean.

During the second patrol under First Lieutenant Rolf Riesen, the boat presumably ran into a mine in the Gironde estuary and sank on 22 August 1944. No survivors.
