Related to the age in good condition. Envelope is neatly opened and not torn open. The letter contains four fully written pages. The envelope is stamped on 27.7.42. With service stamp of the service fieldpost M 17987. Written aboard 26.7.42 to Miss Marianne Pilz.
U 101 was put into service on March 11, 1940 and undertook 10 enemy raids until the end of the war. It sank 22 merchant ships and a destroyer with a total of 118529 GRT and damaged two ships with 9113 GRT.
It belonged to the following U flotilla during the war: 7. Kiel / St Nazaire, 26. Pillau, 21., 24. Memel, 23. Danzig. Decommissioning on October 21, 1943. Then shooting gallery at the 3rd U-Lehrdivision. On 3 May 1945 after rocket hits set on the beach and blown up.
