Original Fieldpost letter of a crew member U 515 ww2

Kriegsmarine fieldpost letter Matr. OGefr. Wanzke, crew member of U 515 ww2

Very nice collector's item from a submarine

The pages have several kinks and smaller tears. Envelope stamped and provided with field post number M 274888. The letter is dated March 17, 1944.

On March 29, U 515 left Lorient under Lieutenant Colonel Werner Henke for his 6th patrol in the Central Atlantic. On April 9, it was sunk north of Madeira by a U-hunting unit. The boat had to appear heavily damaged and was shot at immediately. When leaving the submarine 16 crew members were killed. Including the sailor Obergefreite Josef Wanzke. 44 crew members were rescued, including commander Werner Henke.

I am pleased to be able to offer you this unique piece of the German Navy.
