The U-boat, type VII / C, was built at the Kriegsmarine shipyard in Wilhelmshaven. Launching was on 25.03.1944. Commissioning on 09.05.1944. U 777 belonged as a training boat to the 31st U-flotilla. On 15.10.1944 it was sunk at the equipment quay in Wilhelmshaven by Canadian and British bombers. No enemy raids. It was lifted and decommissioned. Self-sinking on 03.05.1945 in Wilhelmshaven. Commander was Lieutenant to the Sea Günter Ruperti.
